What counts as an emergency

Six situations we drop everything for.

If you're seeing any of these, don't wait for a regular appointment. Call us, and we'll prioritize accordingly.

01

Active water leak

Water coming through the firebox, ceiling staining around the chimney, or visible rain inside the flue.

Tarp + same-day diagnostic
02

Animal trapped

Birds, raccoons, squirrels, or bats in the flue — alive or deceased. Don't light a fire.

Humane extraction + cap install
03

Post-fire damage

After a chimney fire (popping sounds, flames in flue), need a Level 2 inspection before any further use.

Level 2 video scope + report
04

Storm damage

Cap blown off, crown cracked, masonry chunks fallen, tree limb on chimney.

Tarp + structural assessment
05

CO alarm triggering

Carbon monoxide alarm going off near fireplace — possible blockage or back-drafting.

Same-day flue inspection
06

Visible structural damage

Cracks in masonry, tilting chimney, mortar falling out, or daylight visible through the flue.

While you wait

Five things to do in the next 5 minutes.

  1. 1

    Don't light a fire

If anything seems off, don't use the fireplace until we've inspected. Most emergencies become catastrophes when fire is added.

  2. 2

    Close the damper

If smoke or water is entering the home, close the damper to slow it down (but not if there's an active fire upstairs).

  3. 3

    Crack a window

If you smell smoke or feel back-drafting, ventilate. This is especially critical if your CO alarm is going off.

  4. 4

    Take a photo

Photograph the issue if you can do so safely. We'll use it to confirm scope before we arrive.

  5. 5
